I built FunFrame so my kids could play with our family photos without me hovering over the Photos app. It turns pictures from your library into jigsaw puzzles and Memory Match, plus a gallery a two-year-old can't edit, delete, or share from. A few things HN might find interesting: - There's no server. No accounts, no analytics, no third-party SDKs, and no network code of its own. The only traffic iOS attributes to the app is iCloud Photos downloading your own pictures so they can be shown. - Pieces are cut on device with bezier knobs seeded by grid position, so neighbors always interlock. The grid follows the photo's shape, so a wide photo gets a wide board of near-square pieces. SpriteKit for the board, SwiftUI for the rest, SQLite through the C API, no dependencies. - Every finger holds its own piece, so two kids can work one puzzle at the same time. - Settings sit behind a math question. I shipped a switch to turn it off on my own devices, and App Review rejected the release under guideline 1.3: in the Kids category the gate can't be optional. Guided Access is the supported answer. - The only machine learning is on-device face detection, used to center the double-tap zoom. Nothing is stored. It's free, with no ads and nothing to buy. iPad first, and it runs on iPhone. I'd especially like to hear from parents of 2 to 5 year olds about what's confusing or missing.
