Here's some of the main ideas: - SQLite or Markdown folders, you pick. You can project the same authoritative event log into either form; more projection formats will follow (e.g. maybe neo4j; we do use a graph structure). - Empirically: SQLite is better for agents! On a 120 trial evaluation for 11,000 records, agents use 40× fewer tokens with SQLite vs Markdown, per correct answer. - Everything is a file or SQLite row. Messages, documents and projects: all can be modelled in your vault. You get local-first collaboration with teammates, synced to a cloud of your choice. - You can render your vault with arbitrary UI. Your WhatsApp-like UI speaks to your teammate's Slack-like UI; both are just views over the same database. A few things I've learned building this: - Agents do pretty well even without SQL if you give them strongly typed Markdown frontmatter. This was one arm of the trial I ran. I didn't have any clear expectations, but it was cool to watch: agents ended up writing Python scripts to do SQL-like queries. - Cumulatively, cached input tokens can get expensive. I feel silly in hindsight here. I'd gotten used to letting my sessions run long, "It's all cached so it's very cheap". But when I looked at my results here, over 2/3 of the token bill on long sessions was cached input... - "Markdown vaults don't scale as well as databases" isn't as self-evident as I think. This is why I decided to benchmark it... I've had some very blank stares when I try to explain how Markdown files might break at true agent-scale volume. Unfortunately, the dataset is private, because it's two months of my own work. I am considering open-sourcing it even so, but there is definitely some embarrassing stuff in there. TBD... Hi HN. A while ago I started building a generic people matching app based on LLM-as-a-judge. I needed a way to bypass the O(n^2) "everyone rates everyone else" trap, but generic RAG was much worse than expected. DNA is a search-like API at the core of that product. It stores one embedding per item (like a vector DB) and gives the best match(es). You evaluate them in some way (LLM / Decision Model / users), and send the score back. This makes it improve in real time, so next time it gives you better results. In my tests, it needed 7x fewer LLM judgments than scoring down the embedding list. Paper in progress. What I don’t know yet is what would make you want to try building with it. What would you want to see it do?

Hi HN, 10 years ago, as my BsC final project I had the idea to make a quick game that used neural nets to detect notes played on a guitar, and I made a small mini-game to make use of that. I always wanted to improve on that idea, so last year I started making my own piano-learning game. You know how in most games you learn complex key combinations and sequences (i.e. Mortal Kombat fatalities), but those don't have much use outside of the game. My idea was to make a game that can be played with the piano, so you you learn notes, chords, scales simply by playing. While making it and prototyping many versions, I realised that that idea didn't work as well as I wanted, because it is hard to focus on reading notes, playing and some other gameplay logic. In the end I settled on a combination of basic beat-based notes playing and a few minigames that use the piano as input. My goal now is to add even more such minigames, for learning different sheet reading, music theory and piano playing techniques. For art, I am unfortunately not a designer and have no budget for hiring one, so I decided to go with some simple shaped art generated in bulk using AI rendering SVGs. Hopefully this is just a placeholder until I find someone to do the art for the game. At Researchly ( https://www.researchly.at ) we automate market and competitive analysis. We learned that on-the-fly web search through AI agents isn't reliable enough for consistent, in-depth work. Existing data providers such as PitchBook or Crunchbase are either too expensive or lack the data we need: operational signals such as management changes or new partnerships, for DACH. Furthermore, search tools such as Exa tend to be probabilistic. What they return depends on the model and on SEO rankings, so two runs of the same query can give you two different answers. So we built our own search layer: several providers (Exa, Linkup, Tavily, Parallel), allow/deny lists, source rankings (we once caught ourselves citing our own blog posts), and checks whether an empty result means "nothing there" or "out of budget". It works, but: it's slow, expensive, non-deterministic & we kept redoing the same research for different clients (which makes it very un-economic). So we started building the data layer itself. Step one was Firmendaten (300k companies from the Austrian register; shared here last week https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50142669 ). Relational data like that is already a huge improvement, but what we really need is a graph, as people ask "W" questions: who does what with whom where and when. This is our first attempt at it. For now, it just connects who partners with whom and company groups. (Tick "Beziehungen 2. Ebene" to see every partner and person) It's small (a few dozen robotics companies) but you can already see how complex the graph gets & it serves as a good PoC for us. We had wanted to build this for a long time, and it turned out to be far harder than we expected. One thing that sounds trivial but was particularly hard: finding the right website for a company. You can buy that data. There are enrichment APIs that return a company's website. But even if they cover Austrian companies, how do you know which company they matched? There is no worldwide unique company identifier. And if you do it yourself: how do you know that this website really belongs to this company? You have to validate every single match (e. g. through the imprint on a company's website in Austria). There are quite a few more challenges involved, but we're happy with where this first, admittedly small, result has landed. A Slack message, some objectives, a terminal, and at times a browser window or a code file welcome you in each level. Each level is a mix of 'whose fault it is '- sometimes it's you, sometimes it's your made-up teammate's, and sometimes it's just a bad Monday situation. It's a real git engine so the answers are judged on the final state of the repo. No LLMs checking it, and no direct command-based solutions. It is more intended for early devs and students. Of course AI can solve all your git problems but at the end of the day, fundamentals tell the difference. So git is needed. Even if AI handles git for you, it doesn't hurt to know the whys and hows. Three years ago, our dog was sideswiped by a car and my wife took him to the local vet in Berkeley. Reading a book is great, when you know it will be good. Reading news is great, when you know it will be interesting, and the same with essays. Inability to find great content to read became a huge pain point for me after I read through Paul Graham's essays. Then I decided to build a tiny scraper app that would crawl seed websites (I crawled paulgraham.com and situationalawareness.ai) and then embed the content of the site. Among the scraped essays, there were ones I was extremely happy about. To find essays that best fit my taste, I just represented myself as a mean vector of essays I liked, then I used cosine similarity to find gems among tons of garbage that the scraper found. I turned this into a platform which in principle is quite similar, except that people are the ones sharing essays (of their own or external, like on hacker news) and the algorithm is more advanced. What differentiates this from substack or HN is summaries of essays which save time and reduce risk of wasting time and an algorithm that ensures that you find essays that people like you liked the most. I also loved playing cute puzzles like Cut the Rope and Where’s my water. A month ago, I got the itch to build something for the duo, in the lineage of those apps. Something that would be a fun puzzle with a unique game mechanic. I started with a simple premise: what if the cover screen was partly transparent? That could make a fun maze that you have to fold and unfold as you solve it. Orisuji is a turn based paper maze, when the phone is open you have your base maze on the right part of the screen, but the only way to solve it is to figure out when to fold/unfold it to create bridges and new routes. Along the way you’ll encounter increasing complex levels: cats and foxes patrolling, doors you need to unlock, platforms you can toggle, and floors that crumble under you. Some fun things I built/had to do that aren’t obvious: - I built a web based level editor that runs the game’s rules engine compiled from Swift to wasm. - Every level is validated by a solver that identifies shortest solutions, lints the board and identifies which “tricks” are required to solve it. This helped me a few times when designing levels where I would make a change but accidentally would introduce a shortcut. - Figuring out how to translate the fold mechanic to non iPhone Duos was a cool challenge, I ended up adding a “virtual” on screen fold, which still doesn’t justice to the game. - As much as I would love to have some data on how people play the game, it was super important to me that the game worked totally offline, not collecting any data. It was so incredibly fun to build this, as you can expect I leaned heavily into agentic tools, which enabled me to move pretty fast. Every puzzled was however designed by hand, AIs are not good at “fun”, and from a game design perspective this was the most interesting part to me. The whole game costs $4.99, all 69 levels (and already working on new worlds), no IAP ever. A month ago, I shared mini-AGI, an experiment in training a byte-level, continually learning language model from scratch on a single 8 GB laptop GPU (an RTX 3070). To recap the setup briefly: it completely decouples model size from VRAM by paging experts to and from an NVMe drive (currently 397 experts / 1.26B total parameters on disk, with only 32 resident / ~109M active in 5.1 GB of VRAM). It trains on a single stream at batch 1, with the attention/embedding trunk learning rate dampened to 0.1x to mitigate catastrophic forgetting. The training is still going and went only through ~35% of the training corpus selected at the beginning of the run (about 8GB in total). A few years ago when Stable Diffusion was released, I happened to be reading Homer's Iliad and came across a section where Achilles' shield is described in great detail. I fed the passage into Stable Diffusion, wondering how well it would do in creating an illustration of the shield. Of course it was terrible, but a year later DALL-E 3 seemed to do a pretty good job, as long as you didn't look too hard at the details. By then I had been reading Gibbon's Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire (yes I had been on a classics binge), and created a Python app that let me feed random paragraphs into DALL-E 3. The results were often grand collages that seemed to look like a combination of Renaissance art and graffiti. After playing around with this idea for a bit, I realized it would be pretty cool to have a dedicated app that could download public-domain books and illustrate them with DALL-E 3. I have been working on this idea for a few years, at first copying code back and forth from Xcode to the ChatGPT prompt, and then later using Claude Code. I didn't know anything about developing for the iPhone, and had to tackle a broad range of issues, everything from setting up a serverless backend to writing code in Swift to releasing an app on the App Store. Technical issues as mundane as how to parse an EPUB correctly or how to create an engaging UI/UX were surprisingly complex. Now this work has finally culminated in an app I call ParaGraFX: a free-to-download EPUB book reader with built-in text-to-image generation. This app is designed to make public-domain books easy to download and illustrate, with download tools for Project Gutenberg, Standard Ebooks, and The Internet Archive, and illustrations powered by fal.ai and OpenAI. To get started just download the app and open one of the bundled books to start reading. At the bottom of the screen is a button labeled 'Illustrate', which can create an illustration based on selected text or the text on screen. Are you reading the section in Alice in Wonderland about the Mad Hatter's tea party? Just hit 'Illustrate' and you will be served with a custom illustration in one of three dozen styles — from Romantic oil painting, Japanese woodblock print and Art Deco poster to Byzantine mosaic, a cross-stitch sampler, 16-bit pixel art, or 1980s teletext block graphics. Anki has changed my life and is probably the best habit I've managed to stick with. Apart from helping at my tech day-job and remembering random things I find interesting (relatives' birthdays, quotes, poetry), it allowed me to become conversational in Russian in 2 years and complete the first year of a French university degree in Art History - all while working full-time as CTO and co-founder at my company. I have an average memory at best, and it is crazy what Anki unlocks with consistency. Recently I've been exploring how interacting with LLMs by voice can help me spend less time at a screen and more time active and outdoors, for two main reasons: - wanting to be more active/healthy as I'm in my mid-thirties and starting to get back pain - just had a newborn and spend a lot of time carrying him or doing chores around the house Most of my time sitting at my desk is spent waiting for coding agents and reviewing Anki cards. After building Notiferry ( https://notiferry.com/ ) to forward macOS notifications to my iPhone, the next obvious move was Loudwalk: an LLM asks your card questions, listens to your spoken answer, and grades it. Voice reviews give a cadence I don't have on screen, cutting my daily review time in half (from 90 minutes to 45), and walking while reviewing helps both memorization and mood. Time simply doesn't have the same flavor staring at a monitor vs walking in nature or holding your baby. What Loudwalk does: - Import your decks with full history and media from Anki (and export back to Anki with no lock-in; includes a starter deck and CSV import if you don't use Anki yet) - Start a voice review from any deck (works with Siri so your phone stays in your pocket) - Spoken grading + "deep dives": if you stumble on a card or want context, ask out loud to start a live conversation on the subject, with live web fact-checking when dates or connections matter. Say "next" to return to your queue - Question rewording: rephrases questions so you memorize the concept, not the exact card wording - Phonetic grading + deterministic timing: on-device STT mangles proper nouns, so the LLM grades phonetically/semantically against your card's answer, while response-time caps (Again/Hard/Good/Easy) are applied deterministically in code - On-device speech recognition; grading and deep dives use OpenAI models (a mix of GPT-6 Luna and Sol + GPT-Live-1) It runs on iPhone (iOS 26) and Apple silicon Mac (macOS 26). No Android or Windows. I haven't planned to open-source it for now as I'm seeing if it can support me working on it long-term. Visual reviews (Anki-style) are free forever; voice reviews require a subscription ($9.99/mo) after a 7-day trial (no account or credit card required). Sync across Mac and iPhone uses append-only JSONL review logs in your own iCloud Drive - no server in the sync path, and visual reviews + sync + export work offline forever. I switched to Loudwalk over 3 months ago (>3k spoken reviews) with first-class support for English and French, plus a CLI so coding agents can add cards at the end of a study session. Original大家好，最近做了一个小项目 FAHR FACE ，输入一张本人的人像照片，让模型估算照片中的人看起来大约几岁。 想在分享创造聊聊这个项目的背景，以及它后面还能怎么玩。 我们看老照片时，经常会觉得「那时候看起来好青涩」，也会遇到明明隔了没几天，两张照片却像差了好几岁的情况。这里面有时间留下的变化，也有光线、角度和表情造成的差别。如果换成 AI 来看，它会怎样理解同一张脸？这是这个项目想探索的问题。 面部年龄估计这个方向本身并不新鲜，已有公开模型和研究。做这个网站的想法，是把模型能力接成一个普通人也能用的网页：不用配置 Python 环境，不用下载权重，选照片、确认提交，再看到自己的结果。现在使用的是部署在 Hugging Face 上的 FAHR-FaceAge 模型；模型来自已有工作，网站的上传、任务处理、账号与历史记录由这个项目串起来。 我觉得有意思的地方，还在于把几次结果放在一起看。比如找出自己成年后不同时期的照片，看看模型眼里的年龄变化；或者在相近的时间，用不同光线和表情拍摄，观察它究竟有多容易受拍照条件影响。这样既是在看自己的照片，也是在观察一个 AI 模型怎样做判断。结果有时可能更能说明「照片拍成了什么样」，这本身也挺值得琢磨。 目前已经做好的部分比较简单： - 选择 JPG 、PNG 或 WebP 人像，在浏览器本地预览，主动提交后才发送处理。 - 调用模型生成外观年龄估计，在页面查看任务状态和结果。 - 在自己的账号里保存估计结果与测试记录，方便之后回来对照。 - 提供中文界面，以及模型背景、使用方法和隐私说明。 产品上有个想坚持的边界：不给一个看起来精确的数字附加过多含义。这里估算的是照片中的外观年龄，不是生物年龄、健康评分或寿命预测；也不保证每次结果都准确。网站是独立项目，与哈佛或 Mass General Brigham 没有隶属关系。 照片隐私也做了明确说明：预览阶段不上传；提交后会经服务器送到 Hugging Face 上的模型服务处理。自有数据库不保存原始人像，会保存估计结果和任务记录，托管平台的数据处理仍受其政策约束。当前仅面向成年用户使用本人照片。 下一步想探索的是更好用的对比体验，比如给每条记录补上照片拍摄时间、拍摄条件，再整理成个人时间线。这些目前还是想法，现阶段提供的是逐次测试和历史记录。也想看看能不能把「哪些条件会影响估计」说明得更直观，让人知道该怎样理解结果。 想听听 V 友的看法：你会更想拿它看过去几年照片里的变化，还是对比同一时期不同照片的差异？如果给这种工具加一个功能，你最希望是什么？也欢迎直接吐槽这个方向有没有必要继续做。

ZeGrapher is a free an open-source math plotter, first release in 2011 (I thought there were no such app on Linux at the time), that I kept sporadically updating ever since. Last version was 6 years ago but a lot of work went into it. v4 is a near complete rewrite to a modern interface and approach, inspired by desmos. Interesting differenciating features: - Computing and plotting recursive sequences - svg and pdf export at the physical size you see or set on your screen, in centimeters - "schrodinger" constants: define constants that take many values at once, any expression that depends on it is plotted for each value, with a user set color gradient. - an interesting graphical way to deal with CSVs and can handle large ones (millions of lines) The rest on the website ! I want it to be able to make graphs that can be used in research articles, not quite there yet. I want math formatted (like katex) titles and legends at least. I'm not a good singer, but strangely enough I still like singing. I've improved a little over time with singing apps, but their song lists are limited by licensing, so I'd often open a song expecting the original and find a cover I didn't want to sing to. So I built OnKey: a free, open-source (MIT) Mac app that listens to whatever you're playing in Spotify, Apple Music or YouTube, learns the singer's melody, and shows you live where you're sharp or flat, with a score at the end. Nightingale did something similar years ago for your own audio files. OnKey works with the music you already stream. (1:35, sound on): https://singonkey.app The first time you play a song, you can sing along while it listens, or play a whole playlist and let OnKey learn the songs in the background before you come back to sing them. When a song finishes it learns the notes on your Mac (a couple of minutes), and from the second play the notes scroll towards you before you sing them. Learning the song and scoring you both happen on your Mac. No account, no analytics, and the music is never saved or sent anywhere. Your takes stay there too. To check the score means something, I ran 20 recordings of singers, from poor to professional, that music experts had already scored. OnKey ranked them in nearly the same order as the experts did. It's still rough in places: busy mixes and harmonies can confuse which voice is the tune, and now and then a note lands an octave off. Scoring is forgiving on purpose for now, set for beginners like me, so stricter modes for better singers are next. And it's Apple Silicon and macOS 14.2+ only. I'd love to hear where it scores you unfairly or the notes go wrong, and I'm happy to answer questions about how it hears the music and learns a song.

It’s different from existing 3D social apps (AFAIK) because it enables people to build multiplayer virtual worlds, games, and characters with generative AI right from their browser (desktop, mobile, or VR), in nearly infinitely-extendable recursively tiled interconnected spaces, while allowing people to interact in a public commons or easily create a private channel to enjoy the same spaces with their chosen friends and community. The brief backstory is I was running my personal “pelican benchmark” [1] on GPT-6 Astra, which when I ran on Gemini 3 Pro last November couldn’t even put heads on 3D models the right side up [2], and was astounded by the initial results. I gained inspiration for an art project and social experiment that was going to have nine interconnected, benevolent virtual worlds that people could explore and hang out in with AI characters, but by the time Opus 5.5 was released I was gaining so much momentum and having so many ideas and so much fun building I just kept building more and more with the constraint of minimizing MVP scope lifted by agentic coding. I let the project become an ever-evolving wishlist of capabilities for a more interesting social environment as I became increasingly fascinated with the prospect of embodying creative machine intelligence in 3D space with people, realizing that rather than just limiting to building the spaces and characters I imagined I might enable people to co-create endless spaces and characters in a shared world. There’s so much to do still but I’m sharing now even if it feels a little too soon (this is the first public announcement of embodsi’s existence) because I think it’s better to build in the open so people might guide the development and help it evolve in a good direction as model capability improves at a jaw-dropping pace. Hi HN, I'm Thorsten. Caudra ( https://caudra.ai ) is an open source TUI coding agent written in Rust. It started as a fork of Maki and has grown into its own project. I spend most of my working day with coding agents and i have tried a lot of them. I kept adding more and more plugins to get the features I wanted. Most of the time though, i couldn't build the plugins i needed because I couldn't hook into the places I needed (e.g. proper /goal mode). It was also hard to keep them up-to-date, and I wanted one binary I could install in new environments and use right away. It also had to work with small/fast (even local) models as well as flagship ones. I'd like to have feedback on these things: - Steering: You can send a message as "next" (after the turn ends), "guide" (at the next safe point) or "replace" (right now). IMO, "next" is useful for simple ad-hoc chains. - /btw: Ask a side question while the main agent keeps working. It reuses the prompt cache, so follow-ups are cheap. This works even during an active question prompt. - Small/fast models: Caudra nudges the model when a turn stalls, which helps models like Qwen3.8-27B that sometimes stop early. The conversation is always append-only, so the provider cache stays warm. From using it myself, I see about 97% cache hits with anthropic models and 94% with openai. It's still in preview. I was looking at GLP-1 explanations on the web (full disclosure is that I founded a GLP-1 tracker dashboard) and saw that many had standard text, along with illustrations showing arrows pointing from GLP-1 to a bunch of organs. I didn’t think those sites were particularly memorable or helpful in understanding the actions and side effects. I’m an MD + computer science hybrid with a background in building interactive tools for helping people understand medical concepts, so I decided to build a free scroll-through explainer in the form of a subway ride. The ride is 7 stops, takes about 5-10 minutes, and doesn’t require an account. This was with the assistance of AI, using multiple tools. The process was far from one-shot and with me heavily in the loop for all the different pieces. I still find it tricky to get something medically accurate and useful when the details matter. I had built a free set of pages, GLP-1 Field Guides, to help people understand the different GLP-1 related drug classes, and I was able to lean on all of that research and sources to get the details right and to provide authoritative sources for the information presented at each subway stop. I had tried building this starting in February but then paused it for a few months because the models weren’t quite at the point where I could make what I had in my mind’s eye. In the final piece, the different animated elements are drawn in code and change with the scrolling. Here are some of the tools I ended up using: - GPT Image and Nano Banana, both via a custom Claude Code skill I wrote, with my own sketches as the base, for the Field Guide visuals that were important for this piece. Nano Banana for the subway graffiti and the organs - Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS for the conductor’s voice - Suno for the song (ride to the end) - Claude Code with Opus 5.5 to build the site and Codex for code review I am curious if this is a useful format for understanding GLP-1s but happy to answer questions about any of the above.

This is an idea I had for several years, but only now, with AI-assisted development, has it become feasible. Still, it took four months and 1,400 commits trying different concepts and, in the end, fine-tuning the feel and usability. I have since learned that the idea isn't quite novel, but I believe the execution is. It works directly on the calendars already on your phone. There is no account, no server, and no analytics. It is free for three weeks with nothing to sign up for, then $39.99 once, or a subscription at $1.99 a month or $19.99 a year. I hope it will get some traction, but even if it doesn't, I will continue to maintain it as I wouldn't want to be without it. Even if you don't install it, the homepage has a screen recording. My accounting teacher used to ask me to put mine on top because she used it as a marking guide. I then went on to study finance in undergrad and eventually earned an MBA. So accounting isn't an unfamiliar subject to me, yet dealing with my own books made me extremely sad and anxious. I'm building Koody for Business because I want business owners to see accounting through my original lens: something simple and enjoyable that doesn't require a degree to understand. Hi there. I was engineer number 3 at Eventbrite and founding engineer at Reforge. I've created a dozen or so startups myself and have worked in many others, like Instacart. All this time, no one knew that I was a convicted felon. It wasn't exactly a topic that came up, but it was certainly something that I never brought up. When you're a convicted felon, people look at you as if you are tainted. I was unable to rent apartments in San Francisco. I was unable to get a job directly after being released from prison. It's funny because when you owe the state $17,000 in restitution and you can't get a job, people become extremely desperate. And that desperation can easily put you right back into prison. So I went from homeless person at age 19 to 7-figures about 10 years later. I retired at age 38. What I'm doing now is writing an autobiography. The main theme of it is hope. And I want to make sure that people know about it. They don't necessarily have to be interested in it, but if people know about what it's like sleeping in a car believing that one day you will travel the world and then actually doing it, then I think I've accomplished my task in writing this book. This year’s Nobel Prize in economics is about how expectations affect the economy. News about AI’s impact on work, tariffs, and oil supply shocks makes this work feel especially relevant. I don’t have a background in economics, and it was not obvious to me how expectations connect to policy, so I wanted to build a page that, at least in a small way, made that connection clear and sharpened my thinking on the subject. I directed the work and edited the prose heavily, collaborating with AI on research, code, and drafting. Hi HN. Euspell is a conservastive respelling of English and all the software needed to implement it. The link above converts the text you paste, in your browser. Other ways to try it out are the browser extensions and EPUB/PDF readers. Previous spelling reforms have failed for two reasons: they asked people to apply rules by hand or remember a large set of new spellings, and they couldn't handle homographs: "read" is reed or red, "records" is a noun or a verb, "wound" is an injury or a past tense - writing in pure phonetics will actually create hundreds of homographs. Euspell approaches spelling reform differently, with the goal of aiding reading and comprehension. - A lexicon with 205505 entries, each with CLAWS7 part-of-speech tags. Of these, 164067 (80%) are left unchanged. No diacritics are used. Proper nouns are untouched. American spelling is the base, in the line of Webster's reforms. - 5920 entries are ambiguous and need context. The noun/verb -s split (records/recordz) is a linear SVM: 93.2% on held-out text. The hand-written rule it replaced scored 75.9%. Let me begin by explaining what it is: SchemaWright is a platform for learning database table design in a gamified way, with a real Postgres database running on your browser via WASM. It was heavily inspired by Duolingo and LeetCode, because I love the way how those platforms teach their users. I built and launched this a couple months ago, weeks after my first SaaS failed (that one was called NoteRaven, and the idea was for it to be a Notion + Medium + Udemy all in one platform; but after looking at how saturated that market was, I decided to move on). The story on how I came up with it is basically that I was working normally on my day job, and noticed how many times we had changed some core tables, and usually discussed renaming them, changing columns, relationships etc. After that, I realized that I wanted to learn how to "get the schema right" from the beginning, so I began looking for websites that could teach that. It didnt take long to realize I couldn't find one that fitted my needs: it had to feel gamified and rigorous at the same time. When I say "rigorous" I mean that the content shouldnt be standard exercises we see in university (that we never really use at work) or loose definitions we feel like is too shallow. Therefore, I decided that I would be the one to build such platform. The way I structured the app is by separating it in 3 main pages: Learn, Exercises and Lectures. The first one is where you'll find Duolingo like lessons for database schema, it goes from the foundations (what is a table, what are rows and columns), to intermediate/advanced contents, such as concurrency and queues, scaling and architecture etc. It has 8 levels, but I currently only wrote up to level 3 (normalisation). Which is funny because my boss once tested me on this lol. The Exercises page is where I took inspiratoin from LeetCode, especially the page for an exercise structure: on the left side you have the problem description, your submissions and an editorial, and on the right side the code editor and the tests that will run on your code. Finally the last page is for people who are keen on reading papers and are more drawn to academic research. The lectures reference famous and important research papers that led us to our current understanding of databases, sql and concepts we learn today on this subject. It summarizes them and teaches you the concepts, while containing some interactive exercises too! Ok, so why do I think this may work as opposed to NoteRaven? One of the reasons is that I shared this with my co-workers (60+ people, most are devs too) and boss (who is CEO and CTO), and they really enjoyed using it. That same boss gave me positive feedback and suggestions, that I actually ended up implementing on the platform (yeah your suggestion could end up there too!). Another would be that I feel like platforms that train you on database design are scarce compared to ones that teach you queries, so the market wouldn't be so saturated.
